Thank-You Notes

It's tempting, but don't let the quick and easy email replace a heartfelt thank-you note. Whether you were an overnight guest or the recipient of a gift, a few well-chosen words on paper will be remembered long after an email is deleted.

Not sure what to write? Turn to a pro and add a famous quotation (such as "I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks." by William Shakespeare) that fits the occasion. Browse through John Bartlett's "Familiar Quotations" or do an internet search for more contemporary quotes.

Still have writer's block? Don't over-think it. There's nothing more intimidating than a blank piece of paper. Jot down a few thoughts on scrap paper to get the ideas flowing (or write a rough draft email if that venue is more familiar), then re-write the final version on your note card.

Most important, your sentiment should be simple and speak from the heart. Your gesture will be appreciated all the more if it sounds like a genuine reflection of your personality rather than a generic message that sounds forced and obligatory.
