How can I make sure my party host invites me to her next bash?

Who doesn't love a great party? Make sure you at the top of the guest list for all the fabulous bashes by following these simple guidelines:

  • Always RSVP—Be sure to respond as soon as you receive your invitation. If you accept, be sure you attend.
  • Can you bring extra guests? If your invitation doesn't include the kids (or pets), they should stay home. When an out-of-town friend pops in, you should decline as early as possible and explain why—don't make your hostess feel that she needs to invite your guest.
  • What can I bring? Tell your hostess that you would be happy to bring the appetizer she has on the menu—don't make her find something for you to make. If you take a dish to share, be sure to remember the serving pieces—tray, tongs or spreaders.
  • What makes a good hostess gift? Keep it low maintenance—nothing that your hostess will need to put in water or prepare to serve. Try a few fancy soaps or a lightly scented candle.
  • I'm new to this crowd, what should I do? It's simple…follow the crowd. If everyone has gathered in the kitchen for appetizers, join them. If the kitchen seems "off limits", stay with the rest of the guests and let your hostess do her thing.
