I ordered this table looking for something that uses little floor space but offers strong support. I am extremely pleased and surprised at how tough this little table really is. It compares in quality to those sold in upscale furniture stores for $50- $60! It arrived in pieces with one-sheet pictural instructions. Very easy to assemble, nice and sturdy, doesn't rock or lean. When using this table, base fits easily under couch, bed, or chair side. Not only useful for laptops, but I use it for my bedside alarm clock, cordless phone, and water bottle. When standing alone, the base itself provides a worthy size shelf for magazines! I was surprised to store 15 mail order catalogs on that bottom "support" shelf. The wood top is solid wood, sides and shelf are black metal (maybe wrod iron?)-- very sturdy, and the little squares on the outside grate are actually SLATE! This was a great purchase. I'm considering ordering at least 2 more!
